Garib Kalyan Pradhan Mantri Garib As part of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) program provides free food grains to the impoverished and migrants.

This scheme’s Phase I ran from April to June 2020, and Phase II ran from July to November 2020. The scheme’s third phase ran from May to June of 2021. Phase V of the plan will run from December 2021 to March 2022, and Phase IV would run from July to November of 2021.

The center offers the underprivileged 5 kg of free food grains each month as part of this program. This is on top of the subsidized ration (Rs 2-3 per kilogram) that is given to families covered by the Public Distribution System (PDS) under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Both the food grain and its quantity could change.

Phase VI: An estimated Rs. 80,000 crore in additional food subsidies would be provided under the PMGKAY program during Phase VI, which runs from April to September of 2022.

  • The program will be available to families who fall into the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Households (PHH) categories.
  • State governments and Union territory administrations are responsible for identifying PHH based on standards they have developed. States and Union Territories are to identify AAY households using the following Central Government-mandated criteria:
  • households led by widows, terminally sick patients, disabled people. Or those 60 years of age or more who lack a reliable source of income or social support.
  • Widows or terminally sick persons or disabled persons or persons aged 60 years or more or single women. Or single males with no family or community support or secured means of subsistence.
  • Every one of the archaic tribal homes.
  • People who work in the informal economy on a daily basis, such as porters, coolies, rickshaw pullers, hand cart pullers, fruit and flower sellers. Snake charmers, rag pickers, cobblers, destitutes. And other similar categories in both rural and urban areas, are classified as landless agriculture laborers, marginal farmers, and rural artisans/craftsmen such as potters, tanners, weavers, blacksmiths, carpenters, and slum dwellers.
  • Every qualified below-poverty-line family with an HIV positive member

Every family with a ration card receives 5 kg of free food grain from PMGKAY in addition to the 5 kg of subsidized food grain that is currently available through the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Six States/UTs (Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Gujarat) have received wheat, while the other States/UTs have received rice.

Interested parties should present their Ration Card at the closest Fair Price Shop.

  1. Recipients can provide any Fair Price Shop dealer in the nation with either their Aadhaar number or their ration card number.
  2. Recipients can use fingerprint or iris-based identification for Aadhaar authentication.
