The main objective of JSY – Janani Suraksha Yojana is to decrease maternal and neonatal mortality by encouraging medical institutional delivery among poor pregnant women.

Under this scheme the states are classified into two categories Low Performing states and High Performing states. The states which have 25% or less then that delivery rate is considered as low performing states and the states which have more than 25% delivery rate are high performing states. The low performing states are Assam and Jammu & Kashmir.
And the high performing states are Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand.
